2025 Harvest Update from Keller Estate

Cool Conditions Shape Our Growing Season

This year has been notably cool in Petaluma, following a wet winter that blessed us with ample water reserves for the season. This timing couldn't be better, as we've planted 15 new acres of vineyards this year. Young vines require generous amounts of water to establish strong root systems, and we'll spend the next three years nurturing these plants before they begin producing fruit.

Managing the Season's Challenges

The growing season has been pleasantly even overall, though our characteristic cool, foggy mornings have increased mildew pressure in the vineyards. We're addressing this naturally by opening the canopy to ensure proper ventilation and applying appropriate organic pest controls that align with our sustainable farming practices.

Harvest Timing and What's Ahead

We haven't yet seen veraison, the magical moment when green grapes begin turning red, and estimate we're about a week and a half behind our typical harvest schedule. Rather than worry us, this simply means we measure and plan accordingly, knowing that great wine comes from patience and attention to the vines' natural rhythm.

First Harvest: 2025 Verjus

We'll begin our harvest season with something special: our 2025 Verjus of Pinot Noir. This bright, green grape juice is picked well before the grapes are suitable even for sparkling wine production. Traditionally used in France as a sophisticated alternative to vinegar for salads and deglazing, verjus provides the sweeter acid profile that many chefs prefer. In the bar world, it's become an elegant companion for both cocktails and mocktails, adding complexity without alcohol. Stay tuned for more updates as our harvest unfolds! Cheers from all of us at Keller Estate
